Sagepaw's Awakening

Sagepaw dreamed she was running through the forest. Suddenly a river opened up below her. She couldn't stop and soon she was plumeting into the darkness. As she hit the water sunlight streamed into her face.

She opened her blue eyes and blinked. Morning?, she thought. She had just been dreaming it was the dead of night. Sagepaw stood up and arched her back then reached out with her paws in a stretch. She groomed the moss from her pelt and sat down again. She wondered when she would get to train. She also wondered who her mentor would be.

Froststar got up from her deep sleep in her den. She padded outside and streached out before looking around the camp. She decided she would go and see if any apprentices were awake yet that would like to go hunting. She stuck her head in the apprentice den and saw Sagepaw was awake. She meowed quietly " He Sagepaw. Did you have a good night sleep? Are you busy this morning because I was thinking of going hunting would you like to join me?" Froststar smiled at the apprentice hoping that she would have nothing to do because Froststar enjoyed talking to the young cats in her clan. They had so man things to stay and were very energetic unlike some of the warriors. She laughed at this in her mind not wanting to seem odd. She had to be a role model for these young cats, like Sagepaw.

Sageoaw looked at Froststar. SHe stood up and stretched again. "I slept great. ANd sure I'd love to go hunting!" Sagepaw flexed her claws. She was dying to run and sink her teeth into fresh meat. SHe blinked her blue eyes and again she felt the river tugging her fur and the sound of crashing water rang in her ears. But she saw nothing. She shook her head and soon the sounds and feelings disappeared. Distantly she could remember something like this. She glanced back at Froststar. "Can we go now?" she asked not trying to sound impatient. She walked past Froststar and out into the clearing.

" Sure we can." the silver tabby answered. She trotted after Sagepaw into the claering before stopping and sayin " I guess no one else will be joining us, so we will have the forest to ourselves today." she smiled at the apprentice and padded ahead into the forest. She sniffed the air but couldn't smell any prey near by. She moved forward three stride when she picked up the scent of a mouse. She turned to see if Sagepaw could smell it too and if she wanted to go catch the mouse.

Sagepaw followed Froststar. Grass crunched under her white paws. Her fluffy tail waved in the air. In the forest she could hear birds chirping. She lifted her nose and scented mouse. She angled her tufted ears and quickly found the mouse nibbling on a seed. She crouched down and crept forward. She wiggled her hind legs as she prepared for a leap. She sprung forward and caught the mouse between outstretched claws. She bit the mouse's neck and picked it up in her mouth. She trotted back over to Froststar and dropped the mouse. She held her head up proudly.
