In The Image takes place during Shippuden in a sort of a time loop. Pain has already attacked the Village of Konoha, The Hidden Leaf, and repairs have already begun on the destroyed Village. Konoha is receiving help from Suna, The Hidden Sand, thanks to the Kazekage, Gaara.
Naruto has trained to become a Sage ninja like Jiraiya had done. Being a quick learner, he has discovered a way to have "Sage Mode" when he cannot escape during a battle to safely stay still. Naruto is most definitely following the character's path from "The Legend of the Gutsy Ninja", of which he was named after. With almost finding Sasuke, Naruto is working his hardest so that the next encounter will be the last to bring his friend back to Konoha by force.
Meanwhile Team Hawk has joined forces with the Akatsuki. Sasuke seeks to crush Konoha with the help of his team, as well as the help of his Mangekyo Sharingan.
